May you please answer these two questions about Breast Cancer?

Q. Hi guys,

I have worked well for a good few hours but need some help if you have the time? I really need to know:

Who is most at risk of developing breast cancer & why?
Cancer statistics for South Africa?

Please could you help with these two?

Thanks & kind regards,

James

A. I don't usually do homework questions but here goes.

Statistically women are most at risk of developing breast cancer, due to women producing more estrogen than men.

You can determine the breast cancer statistics for South Africa at these web pages.

What are some good attention getters for my speech?
Q. I am giving a process speech on "skin care"- how to a take care of your face. I can not think of any great attention getters besides the typical skin cancer/aging statistics. Does anyone have any ideas?

A. Visuals are always highly helpful. Find a dramatic picture of someone with skin cancer, perhaps. Or if you don't want to go that route, ask a few questions to engage attention. "How many of you wash your face daily?" "How many of you sunbathe?" "Who here knows someone with skin cancer?" Etc, etc. People like to show off, and generally if they know an answer to something--even if they wash their face twice daily--they'll be happy to raise their hands. And you should have their attention from then on, so long as you keep your voice full of inflections and speak loudly and clearly. Also be sure to start speaking within thirty seconds of reaching the podium or front of the room. It's very difficult to gain interest after that point. Good luck!

How accurate are the cancer-death statistics reported by the American Cancer Society?
Q. I have checked with others and we are concerned that the fiqures are not accurate in regards to the number of deaths from cancer each year. Death certificates indicate death from respiratory or heart failure or some other condition. But these complications were the result of the cancer the person had. I don't believe the American people are being given a true picture about the number of deaths due to cancer each year. And what can be done to make the reports more accurate?
The question is about accuracy! If death certificates list respiratory failure as the cause of death, instead of the cancer that
caused the respiratory failure, then there are cancer daeths that are not being recordedm right?
The question is about accuracy! If death certificates list respiratory failure as the cause of death, instead of the cancer that

A. The problems is that older ppl that have cancer have other diseases especially heart problems and they die from those other diseases before the cancer. It isn't the cancer that kills them.
Believe it or not there are many people that die of natural causes have cancer. It isn't misleading it is just the way it is.

You need to have a better understanding of cancer instead of your assuming false information of inaccurate reporting.

How do you naturally lighten hair?
Q. My hair is very dark, straight, and short. It is golden brown in the sunlight, and it has layers. How do I naturally lighten it? My skin is as pale as it comes, and I don't want to tan. I don't want skin cancer, with statistics suggesting children with skin cancer is growing like an infant...Is there anyway to lighten hair without sun?

A. use lemons or peroxide, then run a blow dryer over it. That worked for me. The blow dryer heat is what helped it, looking naturally

How can I get more people to sign up for my cancer support news letter?

Q. I run a fairly successful cancer support newsletter...but I want to step it up and have 10,000 people on my list. I currently have 2,800..I put in a lot of work so I just want to help even more people. Check it out

http://www.thecancersmile.com/

any ideas will help..Thanks.

Travis

A. you could advertise on some free classified ads and such. Personally I haven't looked at your site altho I have seen the link many times on answers.. the reason why is the name. I know I shouldn't judge 'a book by its cover'.. or a site by the name, but for me, cancer and smile just don't fit in the same sentence together.

How would I go about starting a Cancer Survivors Support Group?
Q. I work for a hospital and have been asked by my director to start a Cancer Survivors Support Group. Where do I begin? Any ideas?

A. I would post a flier in the chemotherapy and radiation wards. I would put some information your mission (so write one) and who it is open to. I have seen at our hospital a teenager support group and a support group for older adults and another for cancer survivorship in general.

Each group faces it's own difficulties and challenges. Word gets around, find a place where the meeting can take place and have some refreshments available. Coffee, cookies, ect...

I would advertise for a month from the date that you have your flier made. I seen them in every bathroom in both clinics (radiation and chemotherapy wards). I would put them in all oncologists offices by the receptionist desk. ( Surviving cancer patients go in for check-ups all the time). I would have them in every surgeons office that deals with cancer.

If your hospital has a resource guide I would put them there, any type of cancer coordinator I would give it to them.

I would give it time, and be there for even one person at the advertised time.

My wife is finally going to be going to one.

What are some support groups for people that have stomach cancer?
Q. I'm doing a project on stomach cancer and I need to know some stomach cancer support groups.

A. Stomach cancer is not that common these days. If I were to look into learning about stomach cancer I would be interested in the history as stomach cancer is much less common than it used to be. It's relationship to Vitamin B12 and different manners of smoking would also interest me. I've wondered whether chewing tobacco which used to be very common predisposed people to developing stomach cancer. Yahoo groups may have a group just for people with stomach cancer.

Would there be any difference in personality and emotional side?

Q. One is born on the 2nd July the other the 14 they have the cancer horoscope , what would the differences be?

A. I wouldn't put much stock into a zodiac sigh. I read horoscopes for fun and there is something to them. They are right a lot but they're wrong a lot too. As far as personality, people are more a product of their environment an how they were raised. Since you didnt really get into anything like that, in reference as to what two people your trying to compare. They could be two completely different people and probably are. There may be some or a lot of similarities. It's just not really a question that can have an accurate answer.

Which horoscope should they read instead?
Q. For someone who has Pisces Sun, Cancer Moon, and Cancer Ascendant, should they read the Pisces horoscope because that's their sun sign, or the Cancer horoscope because that's what they have more of?

A. personally,i believe in reading your rising sign as far as your horoscope goes.
i read in a book once something about how 'horoscope' literally translates to 'sun on the eastern horizon' or ascendant.
you'll notice much more accuracy when you read your rising as opposed to your sun sign

Question about your horoscope and transits?
Q. Im unclear about something when I read my "cancer horoscope" on website or in the paper (the generic type) it states neptune is currently passing through your 8th house blah blah blah but in my natal chart neptune is currently transiting my 1st house. A. shld i pay attention to my horoscope at all and B. how do they make up these horoscopes if everyone is different

A. This is how they make up these horoscopes:
For a Sun-in-Cancer horoscope, they create a "sun-rise" chart: They artificially put 0-degrees of Cancer on the Ascendant (1st house), 0-degrees of Leo on the second, 0-Virgo on the third, etc. Then they put all the current positions (the transiting positions) of the planets into this fake chart. And do their reading from there. Yes, that would mean that when Neptune is in Aquarius, it falls into this "sun-rise" chart's 8th house, and when it moves into Pisces it falls into the sun-rise chart's 9th hosue. But as you indicated, in YOUR chart, Neptune is currently transiting through your 1st house, so the horoscope for Cancer is wrong.

Now, you might think that reading the horoscope for your Rising sign, instead of your Sun Sign, would work. But even there, it doesn't work well. For instance, if someone has 22 degrees of Capricorn Rising, transiting Pluto is currently in their 12th house .. but for a Capricorn sun-rise chart's "horoscope", ANY degree of Capricorn for Pluto will put Pluto in the 1st house, because the cusp of that "sun-rise" chart is 0-Capricorn (right now, Pluto is at 5 Capricorn).

So ... no, there is no way to make the Sun-sign write-ups work. They are just not astrologically valid or sound. So here's what you do:
1. Use this website (an online ephemeris) to track the current transiting positions ... and their transits to your own astrological birth chart ... both to your natal planets and through your houses.
http://www.astro.com/swisseph/swepha_e.htm

2. Buy a copy of Robert Hand's "Planets in Transit" (alibris.com and amazon.com sell them second-hand on the net) , so you can understand what those transits mean.

What is the difference between June cancers and July?
Q. I have been hearing alot of things about July cancers and how they behave does anyone know the difference between June and July Cancers. I am the only June cancer I know and I have noticed that I am not anything like them and I can barely relate to general "cancer" horoscopes, but yet they can. So does anyone have any in site on this? what type of cancer Veteran actor Feroz Khan had?

Q. Veteran Indian actor Feroz Khan died of cancer. I am curious to know what type of cancer he had and any other information on his cancer. This information could be of use to surviving cancer patients.

A. I was just online trying to find the same information. I don't have a clue as to why they won't state what cancer he died from. I have had cancer myself and i also feel that it would be useful to cancer patients if they knew what cancer he died from.

What does it mean when your blood work shows you have really low plateletes?
Q. my sister is anemic and now the doc is saying she has low platelets.the doc told her that it means her blood wont clot as well but is it a sign of anything else? they want her to have an ultrasound on her spleen. i am worried that it might be a sign of some kind of cancer. any information to calm my nerves would be greatly appriciated!!

A. Several disorders can show up with these findings; cancer is definitely one of them. There are many types of cancer and it is a very complicated process. Of course the doctor is not going to use that term and scare you all to death until he rules out all the other possibilities. Your sister should watch for signs of bleeding, low blood pressure, and make sure that she continues with all of her appointments and tests. Go to a medical bookstore or university or college bookstore and buy a book on oncology. Tell the assistant you need something that is explanatory such as a learning text book for beginners. Very best to both of you. Do not panic, but the reading will help you deal with some of the medical questions and answers you may be facing.

A. The Dr. IS right...platelet activity is essential to blood clotting. Counts of 150,000 to 400,000 are considered normal. A big fancy term for anything less than 100,000 is thrombocytopenia, and spontaneous hemorrhage can occur with this. Some causes of thrombocytopenia include:
-reduced production of platelets (secondary to bone marrow failure or inflitration of fibrosis, tumor, etc.)
-hyperslenism (overaction of the spleen)
-platelet loss from hemorrhage
Please don't get over-scared from all this. I promise your Dr, will tell you if you are at risk for any of this or if he/she finds these things. But NEVER be afraid to ask if you are needing more information about them. Such as the spleen you mentioned...ask QUESTIONS. But don't always jump to the conclusion that something is cancer just because there is illness involved. It may be a simple infection or something else that can be fixed with tests and medication or a simple surgery. If the problem here is indeed the spleen, one can live fairly easily without the spleen if it has to go to the point of being removed. Minor lifestyle modifications will need to be made, but a normal lifestyle can be carried out otherwise. It may, on the other hand, be able to be corrected with medications alone.
Good luck with everything....

What is a virgo guy with a moon and venus in cancer like?
Q. The guy I like is a Virgo with a moon and venus in cancer. Im a taurus with a moon in cancer.
Any helpful information? Good and bad points?

A. There aren't a whole lot of bad points that i can think of. this sounds like a great match- and i would know! i'm a Virgo with a Scorpio moon, and my boyfriend (we just had our sixth anniversary) is a Taurus with a Pisces moon.
Your Virgo is very caring- the Cancer moon/venus highlights that. He loves to take care of people, it makes him feel whole. He is probably very shy though, and can have trouble expressing himself. That's okay though, you're a Taurus and so you are naturally very patient. And i know you'll stick with it, 'cause you're stubborn. Stubbornness won't turn off Virgo guy, he's adaptable.
My main advice is make sure he knows you like him. He can be very unsure of himself. Since you both have Cancer in important positions, it could be hard to get the ball rolling. You are both more inclined to indirect flirting. Which is fine- but don't be 'hard to get.' Compliment him honestly, talk to him often, and he will probably catch on. If he doesn't like you already- he will soon. You have a lot in common.

What is the difference between metastasized brain cancer and cancer that started in the brain?
Q. My mother had lung cancer a year ago and although it has not returned, she now has a tumor in her brain the size of a dime. It is cancerous .... so what is the prognosis and what is the difference between this type of brain cancer (where it originated in the lungs) and brain cancer that originiates in the brain. Also, what is the prognosis?

A. Cancer originating in a particular organ for the first time is called Primary neoplasm.

Metastasis is its secondary spread through blood or lymph.

Prognosis really depends on histological type of the cancer but metastasis generally requires more aggressive treatment in the form of chemo & radio because it is wide-spread.

My best wishes are with your mother and you as her family in the battle against this cancer.

How would a Aries female and Cancer male as roommates work out?
Q. The cancer guy has a virgo moon and gemini venus
Im not sure about the aries girl

They are both in college and planning to room together and theyve been friends for years. I know that the Cancer is kind of wild and likes to party but the aries is more reserved mostly due to her nationality (chinese)

A. I'm a cancer and my room mate is an Aries and we get along really well. We respect each other. I have an Aries Mars though and she has a Cancer Mars. I do not get pushed around by anyone and I think she is less aggressive than most Aries, so it works.

How can a thyroid cancer metastasize into only one part of the body?
Q. My brother had been diagnosed with thyroid cancer and his cancer managed to metastasize into his liver. My question is, how is it that cancer in one part of the body can metastasize into one part of the body but not the surrounding areas? Or is it just a matter of time?

A. It happens that way cancer.I have found that the liver is much more susceptible to mestatization than other organs because of its functional ties to soo many organs as well as its role in the the body.if he has been treated with chemotherapy or radiation its likely to get the brunt of the effects because of its clean up function.....hopefully in trying to manage it the doctors won't set off a series of mestizaton on the other organs due to exposure of more chemotherapy agents due to the livers reduced function.
I hope you and your family the best.
